Family Counseling

Families are complex, diverse and often volatile as everyone involved has a significant emotional investment in a dynamic unit comprised of very different individual personalities. Family therapy is often short term in nature and is able to assist and better troubled relationships among partners, children and other family members. Family therapy may address specific issues such as marital or financial problems, conflict between parents and children, or the impact of substance abuse or a mental illness on the entire family.

As each family has its own unique circumstances, you may wish to consider family therapy combined with other types of treatment, especially if one of you has a mental illness or addiction that also requires additional therapy or rehabilitation treatment. Family therapy can be useful in any family situation that causes stress, grief, anger or conflict. It can help you and your family members understand one another better and learn coping skills to bring you closer together

We encourage you to reach out to the staff member who seems the best fit for your family based on our staff biography page.

Adolescent & Children’s Counseling

Adolescent counseling and child counseling services can serve to help children and adolescents in a variety of ways. They are able to receive emotional support, resolve conflicts with people, understand feelings and problems, and try out new solutions to old problems, on their own terms in a safe and supportive environment.

The individual goals for therapy may be specific (change in behavior, improved relations with friends or family), or more general (less anxiety, better self-esteem). The length of therapy typically depends on the complexity and severity of problems and the point at which you or your adolescent or child feel that the initial needs and resulting skill development have been adequately addressed.

Alcohol & Drug Counseling

Addiction is a complex disease that affects people from all backgrounds. The use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is most widely utilized because it addresses how thoughts effect behaviors. When we change our faulty thinking patterns, our behavior will change as well. Or conversely, when we change behaviors that are unhealthy, changes in our thoughts will follow. Additionally, the use of Motivational Interviewing (MI) can also be highly effective. MI helps people to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior especially when people struggle with ambivalence with making major life-changes.
